One resigned from the Army.........The Russians walked right in behind the Americans leaving, days later..and took over our brand new strategic base, its new warehouses, and landed Russian Mikoyan MiG-31 supersonic interceptor fighter jets on our recently completed airbase and 18 hangers...housing the Russian fighters,..today! They started bombing, strafing Kurdish fighters and civilians 5 days later  

•      Early 2019, Trump refused to sign the 'bipartisan' appropriation for an massive increase to fund accelerated buildup of our CYBER SECURITY efforts. That money is still blocked today - infuriating all 16 US intel agencies...and the CIA.....(Why would he do that?)

They will reconvene and then take a vote on 'whether... 'the evidence warrants voiding those states electoral vote.......which IF..upheld - would void the entire 2020 election. Trump has found a freshman stooge to try this one last ...'Hail Mary' to save his ***.

          How this 'can' play out: ....There’s talk the Congress is supposed to sit in judgment...... 'of whether'.... states conducted their elections legally. If both a representative and a senator agree to object to a state’s election results, the Senate and the House of Representatives will adjourn to their separate chambers to debate the matter for up to two hours and then hold a vote on whether to reject a slate of electors.

         This scenario seems likely to happen, (Ol' Kin' is predicting IT WILL HAPPEN!)......after several Republican representatives have come forward saying they will challenge results, while Alabama Republican Senator-elect Tommy Tuberville has said he might join in, despite Sen. Mitch McConnell urging his caucus not to.  

                    Mitch McConnel has let it be known: 'He does NOT want this scenario to happen....McConnell knows that the end result will be 'an even greater hatred' for 'the Republican 'label' in the short and long run.........But Trump knows the great majority of his Trumpsters are not the brightest lights of the campus..and tend to be easily 'excited' in his cause .....So anything that Trump sees 'might keep him alive - and in the White House a little longer- He is all for it! ..................He and Tuberville have talked twice aides say. They don't know the substance of the conversation, but it is unusual for a president to spend time talking to a freshman senator or house elect - who has absolutely 'no goverment experience'...                                ................Tuberville, openly stated many times that he 'believes God inspired Trump to run for president...That 'religious' appeal, plus being a winning football coach in the south, made him very popular with southern, rural  voters.

        'Trumpsters', the great majority, do not have college degrees, tend to be greatly less educated than the overall electorate, and tend to hold racists attitudes and despise 'The Elites'..(people with higher education and who also voted for a 'black man' for president - all an insult to their 'values'...AND...all a perfect demographic that Trump saw....early on in 2015, was fertile ground' for his not so subtle racist messages...his 'dog whistles' to under- ecuated....and It worked....Now, he believes he has 'ONE LAST GREAT SHOT!

  This last-ditch 'HAIL MARY' attempt to overthrow the most secure election is US history - TRUMP and his clown-show WILL FAIL - AGAIN!!

Trump and Giuliani have lost 58 or 59 court-election challenges...Many Republican judges voting against the man who appointed them...(showing that there are a few intelligent, principle Republicans left).

                            Modest hopes? Optimism for 2021?                                        Yesterday?.. 'That one day': a return to the Christmas and Holiday season, that different time,, the magic' of a calmer time that we once knew? Great expectations!

           Nostalgia? Yes. Of course, but nevertheless: The 1950s, 60s, 70s and into the late 1980s. It was scenes like these that we saw....that we now only faintly remember..     Many of us...most of us, grew up in a stable 'middle-class society, far, far from rich in money, but rich in a kind of world of 'certainty' and predictability...Stability........... A calm, stable , solid, strong America. So.....- perhaps, just maybe, in 2021 we can at least 'begin' to return to those calmer times

                                        Mr. John Tunnell A Man for All Seasons                                                             90th Birthday! 

         John, the man, the legend....he has worked at the Sanitary Restaurant for 75 years.  This Sunday, 3PM, cars, his friends, will line up at 17th and Shepard Str. and at 3PM, they will slowly begin to ride to John's home just down the street at 204 S. 16th St. and each car will slow down, perhaps stop for a moment and wish John a "Happy Birthday!" He will be out on his porch.. (maybe out front!)...He is to be honored for 'who he is'- as a gentlemen, an Carteret icon, one of the most beloved men in Carteret County. Everyone knew, knows John Tunnell for who he is, for who he has been' to so many people over 75 years. I had the privilege of writing his biography, 'The Memory Man'. John was both the general manager and Maitre' D for many, many years, hiring hundreds of people.

         On December 12^th, 2020. John Tunnel, the Goodwill Ambassador of Carteret County, will be 90 years old. That gentleman has worked at the Sanitary Restaurant for 75 years!.  He is like the ‘Ever Ready Bunny’ – He just keeps on ticking,  remembering, and talking, and telling stories: “I knew your daddy, your mother, your granddaddy and grand momma... They were all mighty fine people." Many a teenager was hired by John to work at the restaurant, for so many, it their very first paycheck...So many, decades later come back to see him - to thank him..'their 'first job'! He told me once: "I never ever fired an employee. However. there were times at which it was necessary 'to suggest.. strongly',... to a certain person, that they would be better off...working somewhere else' That person always took my advice."

        

        John would often tell people things about their own relatives, that they did not know! I witnessed it so many times as I sat with him in 'his office reading-greeting ' in the front lobby, 10' front of the two cash registers: (table with 3 chairs, one, 'one, John's DIRECTOR chair.... my books, Jack Dudley's books on display)....He would start out:  "As I recall,  your people came over here from Scotland. Your grand daddy fought in The Battle of the Bulge, Christmas Even night."  John would almost map out a person's DNA if they sat with him long enough..His memory? Uncanny, still -  to say the least. John is what i like to refer to as 'an old soul'...he has captured the past in and of eastern North Carolina.. hundreds, if not thousands of people, their family connections - in his memory bank.

         He would tell me, time and again:  "I never met a person that I couldn’t say, or feel some kind things about. I found that most people are just plain good. You know, if you just listen, you’ll find and you’ll see a lot of  good things in everyone.”.....  About the worse John could or would say about anyone, was 'Well, you know - he was different."

        He longs to be able to go back.. ('if', when -Dr. Cas Cader says it is OK) to be able to go back down to the Sanitary and position himself once again in 'his office' - "I miss talking to people! I Miss seeing and talking to my friends'...Smedes York, the former Mayor Raleigh, and the owner of two shopping centers on the island, would often stop in (even if he wasn't there for having a meal) - just to sit and talk with John. I was there a couple of times also....We exchanged books, he gave me his signed book "Growing Up in Raleigh'...I gave him 'John Tunnell, The Memory Man."  

       John Tunnell is in remarkably good health. He has his ailments of coiurse, but are well managed, however -physically, mentally, no question: IF it weren't for this COVID 'thang'...John would be 'back to work  tomorrow.... and telling stories, making people laugh, bringing smiles to their faces."                                                                                                    .                                                                                                  

.......John, the Storyteller: "You see, it was it was like this - in 1958, your grand daddy drove a seafood truck for Captain Ottis, delivering the Captain's NC seafood, from here on the Morehead City waterfront..all the way to the Fulton Fish Market in lower Manhattan, being there at 4AM when the doors opened.. Your grand momma was a Styron...and they had four children, one your uncle, became an NC state legislator..That family was the finest kind."

        Funny story: "We're gonna' die!"...John often travelled with me over a period of the two years, mostly Down East, as I did my interviews at the fishing docks, took photos, etc., as I was in process of writing, self-publishing my book, 'The Fish Barons, The Golden Years 1935-1985'...John would get out of the car: soon..many times, suddenly, there was a crowd..'There's John Tunnell.."               ....." One day, going down there, almost at Cedar Island, I stopped at the very top, the crown of the Gaskill bridge, fantastic view! I left the car running, left the driver wide door open - to take some quick photos.... John, looking in the rear-view mirror -  saw (and heard) a truck coming . It had one of those 'Macho-Man mufflers'.   John  yelled, “Quick! get in the car, a truck is coming – fast!”  I saw it - just enough time.., two more photos…”He's on the bridge! KEN, get in the car now!” I saw the truck, Mr. Muffler-Man, now roaring, speeding up - coming faster,..  at the bottom of the bridge. “OMG! We are both gonna’ die!” (The truck was coming even faster. I quickly jumped back in the car....... John’s eyes were closed, his head down, hands clasped in his lap...... His lips were moving...He was praying! ... The truck zoomed by us, horn blowing, testosterone-charged muffler roaring... in the other lane. John  looked up…. “You know, we could have both been killed! Been knocked  right over that railing, falling down in that deep channel  – They would have never found  us! Never seen again! Missing persons”.  I promised him I would never do that again.                                                                                                                SUNDAY:..Aren't able to join the  the  'drive-by'?  If you would like, you can call him.       Oval Office Trump advisor: "He doesn't show up for work now. No government work is being attended to. He stays upstairs and rages. He is now very moody and very depressed. He lashes out at everyone." .....Over the past week, President Trump posted or reposted about 145 messages on Twitter lashing out at the results of an election he lost. He spends most of his time alone and firing off angry Twitter messages..." He sees enemies everywhere, much like the paranoid US Senator Joseph McCarthy back in the mid-50s. Republicans finally turned on McCarthy, denouncing the man they once 'praised'. He died, the most hated man in US government. Republicans increasingly are denouncing Trum also.

"..The president....He has fixated on purging the disloyal and punishing an ever- growing list of perceived real enemies that now includes Republican governors, his own attorney general and even Fox News." He can't understand 'why' Fox News has turned against him.

      Shakespearean tragedy in the making?

.........At times, Mr. Trump’s railing-against-his-fate outbursts seem like a story straight out of William Shakespeare, part tragedy, part farce, full of sound and fury. Is Mr. Trump a modern-day Julius Caesar, forsaken by even some of his closest courtiers? (Et tu, Bill Barr?) Or a King Richard III who wars with the nobility until being toppled by Henry VII? Or King Lear, railing against those who do not love and appreciate him sufficiently? How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless electorate.

“This is classic Act V behavior,” said Jeffrey R. Wilson, a Shakespearean scholar at Harvard who published the book “Shakespeare and Trump” this year. “The forces are being picked off and the tyrant is holed up in his castle and he’s growing increasingly anxious and he feels insecure and he starts blustering about his legitimate sovereignty and he starts accusing the opposition of treason.”

      Civility?... What's that? An alien term today:...Trump, the rise of Republican 'White Nationalism' and elevated right wing GOP, racism, Proud Boys, QAnon, revival of the KKK,.... weak-kneed, cowardly US senators who are too frightened of their rogue president  to state publicly,  the truth that exists in their hearts and heads - the President-elect Joe Biden won an overwhelming election victory - Never in history has a president in modern times ever won by such a HUGE percentage margin...he got  80 million votes....to Trump's 74 million. Trump lost...but like all true dictators and despots, he refuses to acknowledge the outcome of a free and honest election.  

        The 1960s were a very difficult time for this country.  I remember the spire of flames and smoke rising above northeast Washington, DC. We were very divided in the latter part of the 1960s, with very serious race riots. We had some public demonstrations about the war, we had the assassinations of two Kennedys, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X. In the mid-1970s, the widespread criminal conspiracy led by the president that we call for shorthand Watergate had the country in a serious constitutional crisis. ........HOPEFULLY...President Joe Biden and Democratic controlled US Senate (2 Ga. 'wins', Jan.5) and a Democratic House can return to the America we knew, the one that our Allies around the world can county on...Once again.

Only 'Blue States' have passed it so far: Oregon, California, Washington state, Maine, District of Columbia, New Mexico, Vermont, New Jersey, Colorado, Hawaii, While the debate still carries on, more states are poised to make the Death With Dignity, also known as Aid-In-Dying and Physician-Assisted Death, a law.. 28 other states now have 'active legislation pending.'
