Christmas Eve Reflections - 9AM 2020

    December 24, 2020: Christmas Eve morning, 9AM.

         Christmas music is playing, traditional Christmas music, Bing Crosby, “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas’, ...‘The Little Drummer Boy’….Felice Navidad (Jose Feliciano with his son singing with him-great Christmas video), ...“Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas, or,.... ‘Oh come let us adore him’, memories of past Christmas’, even to this old, very  secular guy.                                                              ............Weather:  It is going to be cloudy, chilly, rainy, blustery Christmas Eve and Christmas morning….fitting in a way…the COVID Pandemic is still raging. It is a terrible time for the country, millions of people out of work, so many businesses having to close up, so many, forever..the end is not really in sight despite the delivery of the first effective vaccine, only a little over 1 million people vaccinated.  …Normalcy?.“You can’t go home again,’ a novel of a complex time in America in the 1920’s, some of the same theme that exists in “Look Homeward Angel’..’going back’…’trying’ to make things  'right', warm memories ’like they were 'yesterday'….rarely possible, except in some reflective ways……but life goes on. We can all work to do what we can to get 'on the other side of  COVID-19.

    TRADITION:.. Looking for normalcy.....One Raleigh tiny tradition of 30 years will be re-visited' by me, this AM, with Florita and I now back in Raleigh after being down on the NC coast for 20 years – I am going over to nawth' Raleigh, Winston’s Grille, Falls of Neuse, at 11AM to sit with Wil Oneal, ex son-in-law abd still best friend (life happens)…. as he leaves the door open to the restaurant, Christmas music playing, restaurant decorated for Christmas ‘up to the nines’ – the restaurant closed for dining, but open for his tradition of selling dining gift certificates (with the bar open, naturelment! )..It is both a convenient time for some folks to get a last-minute Christmas gift…a Winston’s Grille gift card …and even more..a time when long-time loyal customers come in to chat and laugh and renew acquaintances, (glass of wine or martini in hand). Wil Oneal does this from 10AM to 2PM, some guys, (a few gals) wives drop by for the traditional camaraderie…everyone wearing masks…Wil has a large open area around the large bar, decorated up!... pine boughs, large red ribbons, Christmas lights everywhere….T-top tables 8ft apart, hand sanitizer everywhere…..….’Stretching the envelope’ of course, but some modicum of normalcy has to remain in our lives….Football coaches, one or two players (reg customers) from the Hurricanes, some NC legislators,  just plain people mostly, like me, will drop in, Bill Cower, the retired, former coach of the Pittsburg Steelers has come in the past, mostly just good friends and many, many customer friends. It is a gala time…Then there’s Ron, insurance man.. (Republican, my good friend), Wil’s 25-year customer, my age, (‘Old Kin’), 80, He will ask ‘if I sent a card to, or did I call… to Donald Trump’…..Ron will retell his jokes to a standing crowd who has heard them over two decades +……..“I  don’t mind dying…I just don’t want to be gone that long.”….…or in an argument, (a closer!…) “If I agree with you -then, we’re both going to be wrong.” Or,  ‘What do you call a bear with no teeth? – A ‘gummy bear!” …..Flo will be talking to our four gals and the grandkids, now that all of us are in one town – Raleigh or its nearby environs.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        So, this Christmas will come and go, like so many others, to become but a memory, hopefully a lovely one, happy one,,,,, but knowing full well, …what it is like for so many, many others….only hoping our leaders can regain their sanity and set the Good Ship America upright again.  Right now, all we can so is hope. The segment comes in response to a new lawsuit threat from Smartmatic over several segments in which Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell, and the hosts pushed the baseless conspiracy theory: NOTE: even though the company was not involved in any elections in the contested swing states.

  Trump, Giuliani and Mike Flynn are looking like they are certifiably insane....bordering on treason if nothing else..Sidney Powell, Giuliani's wil-eyed anarchist side kick are being denounced by key Republicans now.      

         Discussions, (as you read this - as to 'whether or not' the president should invoke Martial Law immediately and call for new elections....("The president appears to be totally 'losing it - screaming and yelling at everyone in the Oval Office - accusing some of 'not being loyal to me!".White House staffer quoted.    The Man Who Sabotaged the Relief Package - at the last Minute!

          In December 2020, this day, millions of people are on 'food welfare' at Christmas, a stunning 50 million to be exact. Millions more are facing eviction, and losing their homes..... Children are going to bed in America tonight, crying from hunger, mother, crying in the night helpless  to alleviate the hunger pangs.......The deal could have been done Friday night....except for this one man (above).

           America is in a CRISIS! Do you think these facts, repeated over and over, 24/7 on all networks made one even one damned difference to Republican Senator Pat Toomey? Absolutely not -          He saw his chance to hurt his old nemesis Joe Biden - and he took it. He knew, that at this late date, every Senator wanting to 'get the deal done'...that he would get his way - and he did. He stopped the deal in its tracks...saying he would only go along as long as his resolution was largely adopted. It was....but now, that 'agreement' has caused a whole set 'of new problems'.

         Because of Toomey, the deal that 'would have been passed Friday night - now is rolled over to Monday...Republican Senator Imhoff from Oklahoma, was another GOP Senator in outrage...He left and went home late Friday night in absolute disgust - mad as hell -  at Senator NO.  

          He waited until the last minute to kill the deal:......His name is Pat Toomey -the saboteur.

       Toomey enraged even many of his fellow US Republican Senators, especially No. 2 Republican, John Cornyn from Texas.... who thought (mid-morning Friday), that both the Dems and Republicans had essentially, finally, ironed out a compromise deal.....One they 'hoped' to vote on late that same day                  - WRONG!   Toomey, like President Elected, Joe Biden is also from Pennsylvania. 

For reasons, not known, Toomey has has a long intense dislike for his fellow politician from Scranton Pennsylvania. In the past he had opposed almost any legislation introduced by his Pennsylvania 'colleague'. Toomey has the reputation of Senator NO!

The ISSUE: For as long as there has been a US Treasury, it has had the power to act quickly and decisively in a national emergency and economic crisis. Members of both parties have long supported the Treasury's ability to provide an infusion of cash into the economy in such case. 

Until now, this week, it was a given a sacrosanct power that the Treasury had. Toomey knows, when Biden takes office, he and his new Democratic administration are inheriting a 'nightmare national economic crisis.....Massive and now, accelerating unemployment.; COVID will still be causing continuing high loss of jobs....One 'safety valve' for all presidents in he past. and the Treasury - was to provide  ('without having to go Congress') - an 'immediate cash infusion'....NO MORE! 

Toomey saw 'an opportunity' to limit the power of President Biden's administration's ability to act.  Given the situation the US is in, A CRISIS, having this 'emergency relief money readily at hand - is more crucial now, than in other time in history since the Great Depression. Pat Toomer, single-handedly, has take away that 'emergency response. power' - it is greatly reduced now...all..'In his 'cause of 'FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY.' ......

People are starving. People are losing their homes. Do you think this Republican senator from Pennsylvania cares? Hell no! Not if he can hurt this 'colleagues' incoming administration

          How this 'can' play out: ....There’s talk the Congress is supposed to sit in judgment...... 'of whether'.... states conducted their elections legally. If both a representative and a senator agree to object to a state’s election results, the Senate and the House of Representatives will adjourn to their separate chambers to debate the matter for up to two hours and then hold a vote on whether to reject a slate of electors.

         This scenario seems likely to happen, (Ol' Kin' is predicting IT WILL HAPPEN!)......after several Republican representatives have come forward saying they will challenge results, while Alabama Republican Senator-elect Tommy Tuberville has said he might join in, despite Sen. Mitch McConnell urging his caucus not to.  

                    Mitch McConnel has let it be known: 'He does NOT want this scenario to happen....McConnell knows that the end result will be 'an even greater hatred' for 'the Republican 'label' in the short and long run.........But Trump knows the great majority of his Trumpsters are not the brightest lights of the campus..and tend to be easily 'excited' in his cause .....So anything that Trump sees 'might keep him alive - and in the White House a little longer- He is all for it! ..................He and Tuberville have talked twice aides say. They don't know the substance of the conversation, but it is unusual for a president to spend time talking to a freshman senator or house elect - who has absolutely 'no goverment experience'...                                ................Tuberville, openly stated many times that he 'believes God inspired Trump to run for president...That 'religious' appeal, plus being a winning football coach in the south, made him very popular with southern, rural  voters.

        'Trumpsters', the great majority, do not have college degrees, tend to be greatly less educated than the overall electorate, and tend to hold racists attitudes and despise 'The Elites'..(people with higher education and who also voted for a 'black man' for president - all an insult to their 'values'...AND...all a perfect demographic that Trump saw....early on in 2015, was fertile ground' for his not so subtle racist messages...his 'dog whistles' to under- ecuated....and It worked....Now, he believes he has 'ONE LAST GREAT SHOT!

  This last-ditch 'HAIL MARY' attempt to overthrow the most secure election is US history - TRUMP and his clown-show WILL FAIL - AGAIN!!

Trump and Giuliani have lost 58 or 59 court-election challenges...Many Republican judges voting against the man who appointed them...(showing that there are a few intelligent, principle Republicans left).
